The land was first granted in 1828 to James Weeding as a two-acre town allotment. Nearly two hundred years later, his direct descendant Nick and wife, Sophie Weeding, returned to reclaim and restore it. Their careful and sympathetic renovation has ensured that Raffah House remains not simply preserved, but truly alive once more.

Over the years, the cottage has lived many lives. It has welcomed travellers as a local pub. It has marked the beginning of life as a maternity hospital, with generations of locals born within its walls. Even today, gentle reminders of this rich history remain in the garden, where the original stone outbuilding and pathways quietly echo stories from another era.
